Basescu and Scheffer – Convinced of the Success of the NATO Summit in Bucharest
The President of Romania, Traian Basescu, and the Secretary General of NATO, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, declared, Thursday, in Brussels, that they are convinced of the success of the NATO Summit in Bucharest. The two issued a press statement after the meeting they had at the NATO headquarters in Brussels, meeting where they noticed that the preparations for the organization of the reunion in April are very good.  Moreover, Scheffer said that he noticed that on the occasion of his visit in Bucharest, on the 11th of January. “We had a very interesting meeting. The main topic we discussed was the Summit in Bucharest – the largest summit in the history of NATO. We discussed the stage of the preparations, which is a very good one”, said Scheffer. On his turn, Traian Basescu mentioned that in the discussions held with the Secretary General of NATO, important aspects were touched, aspects that will be addressed at the NATO Summit. Among these, the head of state mentioned the NATO enlargement, the accomplishment if the military obligations of Romania in Afghanistan and in the Western Balkans, the security of the energetic transport in the Black Sea area and the situation in Serbia as well. “I am convinced we will find solutions and we will have a successful Summit, both substantially and organizationally” said Basescu.
