Romania is making intense preparations for 2008 NATO Summit in April, when some surprises are not excluded to appear, such as Vladimir Putin’s visit to Bucharest, informs Deutsche Welle. According to the German radio station, the Russian president from Kremlin – who is at the end of his second presidential legal mandate – might come at the NATO Bucharest Summit. This would be his first visit to Romania, which is extremely important, as during the 8 years he has been the leader of the Russian Federation, he did not want to visit the ex –Soviet satellite. In this context, DW considers that the meeting at Bucharest, between Traian Basescu, the President of Romania, and Vladimir Putin (as the president or the new prime – minister of the Russian Federation – considering that the presidential elections in Russia are planned for 2 March) – could improve the relationships between Russia and Romania.
