NATO Secretary General praises the Romanian Troops in Afghanistan

“Let me start by expressing my profound respect and appreciation to the Romanian military forces, activating in NATO missions. They do an excellent job in the theatre of operations in Afghanistan. I would like to restate my profound respect and appreciation for what they are doing there”, NATO Secretary General declared at Bucharest. During his last visit to Bucharest before the NATO Summit, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer discussed with the Romanian Minister of Defence, Mr. Teodor Melescanu, about the Ministry of Defence’ contribution to the Summit organized in Bucharest, and about the Romanian military forces’ participation in different theatres of operations.
“We discussed about the NATO solidarity message and the Alliance enlargement with three new aspirant countries from our region, the Western Balkans. Other important issues were tackled: the situation in Afghanistan, our military contribution in Kosovo, antimissile shield, energy security, and other topics of interest”, declared Melescanu. 
The two officials approached the topic of Romania’s involvement in different NATO – led operations. “I would like to reinforce our commitments to the obligations we assumed”, the Romanian Minister of Defence stated.
