NATO and Russia has agreed to a transit deal with NATO to allow the alliance to ship non-lethal freight across Russian territory to military forces in Afghanistan, announced Smitri Rogozin, Russian Ambassador at NATO. This agreement will be sign Friday in Bucharest, by the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Serghei Lavrov, on the occasion of NATO-Russia Council. At the event is participating President of Russia federation, Vladimir Putin.
The agreement is allowing the transit across Russia of non-military equipment freight, food products, fuel and transport vehicles.
NATO negotiated with Moscow for many years in order to allow air and terrestrial transit on Russian territory of equipment for ISAF soldiers. For this Summit it was prepared only the agreement concerning transit by railway.
