Romania wholeheartedly supports the extension of the antimissile shield
and wishes to take part in this project, especially since Romania and Bulgaria are currently only partially covered with respect to anti-ballistic defence, stated Premier Calin Popescu-Tariceanu in Prague, following the discussions with his Czech homologue, Mirek Topolanek. The head of the Romanian Government stated that the extension of the antimissile shield, a project which is to include also the Czech Republic and Poland, “must not nevertheless be accomplished by turning Russia into an enemy”. In his opinion, Russia must understand that it can be a partner of NATO and the EU for ensuring the security of the continent, as well global security.
Calin Popescu-Tariceanu said that the NATO Summit held this year, which will take place in Bucharest in the beginning of April, would approach the topic of the extension of the antimissile shield. “We believe that NATO must play its role in ensuring the security of its members, but also global security”, was the opinion of Romanian Prime-minister.
