NATO Spokesman, James Appathurai, said Wednesday evening that there is no consensus in the Alliance concerning the candidate statute of Georgia and Ukraine, and his opinion is that the two countries will not receive invitations to join the Membership Action Plan (MAP) at NATO Summit in Bucharest.
NATO Spokesman James Appathurai said Wednesday evening he doesn't expect membership action plans for Georgia or Ukraine in Bucharest, but he assured that the Allies unanimously sustain the vision of NATO's "open-doors" policy, reason for what the granting of MAP to former Soviet nations Georgia and Ukraine "is not a question of 'whether', but of 'when'." The conclusion was presented by the NATO official, after the NATO Heads of State dinner, hosted at the Cotroceni Palace. "The NATO heads of state share a common vision on three points: NATO's door is open for those countries, MAP doesn't imply the quality of member-state and no state outside the Alliance has a say in this decision, which actually concerns aspirant States and member States", declared the NATO Spokesman."Discussions on granting MAP to Ukraine and Georgia will be continued Thursday morning", said James Appathurai.
