During a short meeting with the Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, the American president, George W. Bush, Wednesday, expressed his satisfaction on the NATO commitment to Afghanistan, but he is still reserved about receiving Macedonia in the North – Atlantic Alliance, AFP informs.
Bush expressed his optimism over "the success of this Summit". "I am satisfied with my expectations from the other leaders concerning their support to Afghanistan", Bush said at the end of the meeting with the Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.
Bush, who required the USA’s allies to send more troops to Afghanistan, did not mention if he referred to their commitment or to their political support.
"If tomorrow we clarify our military support for Afghanistan (…), as you mentioned, the Afghan people will be more than grateful to you", Bush declared, addressing to Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.
"As far as the NATO enlargement is concerned, we shall see", he added.
"It is one problem with a country, but I am convinced that we will manage to solve it", Bush declared, obviously referring to Macedonia that encounters a strong opposition from Greece because of an older dispute over the name of the former Yugoslav republic.
