Basescu: Romania will meet its commitments
Romanian President Traian Basescu underscored, after Wednesday's official talks with U.S. President George W. Bush that their two states have similar approaches to the Balkans, Ukraine and Georgia.
Basescu told a joint news conference in the Black Sea resort of Neptun (southeastern Romania) that Romania's partnership with the United States has gone beyond a mere defence partnership, and now it is a partnership having an important economic side as well.
The Romanian president highlighted the confidence the U.S. had in the Romanian Army, by putting a significant number of troops in Afghanistan under Romanian command and assured President Bush that Romania will respect its commitments to NATO, the European Union and also the pledges related to the bilateral partnership.
