US President George W. Bush and his wife Laura on Wednesday landed on the Mihail Kogalniceanu Airport, where they were welcomed by Romanian President Traian Basescu and his wife Maria.
The two presidents greeted each other and Basescu offered the US First Lady a bunch of flowers on the stairs of the airplane.
The Guard and Protocol Regiment saluted the officials and the national anthems of the two countries were sung, after which a review of the two official delegations followed.
At the end of the welcome ceremony the two heads of state and their wives were photographed.
Bush and Basescu are scheduled to meet at the Black Sea resort of Neptun and hold a joint news conference afterwards.
President Bush and his wife Laura are accompanied by US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, US ambassador in Bucharest Nicholas Taubmann, White House Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten, Assistant to the US President For National Security Affairs Stephenm Hadley and White House Communication Director Kevin Sullivan.
The Romanian retinue is made up of Foreign Minister Adrian Cioroianu, Defence Minister Teodor Melescanu, Romania's ambassador in Washington Adrian Vierita as well as presidential advisers Mihai Stanisoara and Anca Ilinoiu.
