Basescu: After the Bucharest Summit, Romania might be surrounded only by allies
Romania might be, for the first time in history, surrounded only by allies around its borders, if after the NATO Summit the Alliance will extend by including Croatia, Macedonia and Albania, and Ukraine and Georgia will be included in the Membership Action Plan, told President Traian Basescu on Tuesday to the participants of the la Young Atlantic Members’ Summit. “From our point of view, the importance of the Summit is crucial, because most of the subjects approached here are directly connected to our region. Either if we speak of the Western Balkans, or if we speak of Georgia and Ukraine, these issues have a tight connection with the national security of Romania and with the security of the region where Romania and Romanians live”, underlined the Head of State.
Traian Băsescu re-affirmed that our country supports Croatia, Macedonia and Albania’s invitation to join NATO, supports the idea of an intensified dialogue with Bosnia Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro. Romania also supports the granting of the MAP for Ukraine and Georgia, added the President.
