Romanian President Traian Basescu told the public TV channel on Monday evening that as far as the NATO-Russia relations are concerned, the problem is that Moscow cannot get out of the Cold War logic.
He said that in its relation with NATO, Russia should get out of the Cold War logic and embrace the logic of partnership, given that the Warsaw Pact no longer exists.
'There is nowhere to be said that NATO states are a threat against Russia. Russia is plagued with terrorist attacks, and this is an element shared with NATO. Why is it that we cannot get out of the Cold War logic?
Who can imagine that NATO will be attacking the Russian Federation?' Basescu wondered.
He also wondered about who stands to gain from statements such as that Russia would zero in its missiles on Ukraine as Ukraine is getting closer to NATO.
'Russia should quit seeing NATO as a threat,' Basescu emphasised.
