The Supreme Defense Council of the Country (Consiliul Suprem de Aparare a Tarii) approved on the Tuesday meeting, following the proposal of the Romanian Intelligence Service, to raise the terrorist alert code from blue (cautious) to yellow (moderate), a code level that entitles the activation of special collaboration measures between the Romanian state institutions.
Realitatea TV explains the meaning of the new code, namely that SRI (Romanian Intelligence Service) has information regarding the existence of a general risk of terrorist attacks. The CSAT (The Supreme Defense Council of the Country) members analyzed the preparation of the security measures taken for the organization and development of the NATO Summit, and passed the required information to the institutions working in the field of national security, as well as to the Mayor of Bucharest.
On the Tuesday meeting, CSAT approved the plan regarding the missions, organization, leadership, training and use of Special Operation Forces of the Romanian Army. The Ministry of Defense, Teodor Melescanu, informed the CSAT members regarding the evolution of terrorist risks and threats in the operational theatres where the Romanian army displays forces. Also, during the same meeting, the SRI (Romanian Intelligence Services) director, George Maior, brought to the attention of the Council members, the report regarding the outcome of the structural-functional modernization and transformation process of the Romanian Intelligence Services. Consequently, a new organizational structure and functioning rule of the Service were approved, meant to increase and strengthen the action capacities, together with the reduction of bureaucracy, according to the professional standards of the Euro-Atlantic information services.
