The minister of Foreign Affiars, Adrian Cioroianu, declared on Thursday that during the Government Meeting for the Summit preparations the participants were able to watch the live assembling of a new illuminating system in one of the rooms of the Parliament Palace.
The Minister mentioned there are still technical issues that must be solved regarding the Summit, mentioning in this context the works from the Palace of Parliament, but also the political aspects.
"Even as we speak, people are working there", said Cioroianu, mentioning that during the Government meeting held on Thursday on the Summit issue, there was a live transmission for the participants to witness the works in progress in one of the rooms where a new illuminating system was being installed.
"We have a live connection that will be kept as such during the Summit, on the Summit web-site", he said, adding that there are also “horticol works” in progress in the Palace of Parliament yard.
The Minister said that, nevertheless, the most sensitive issues still not tackled are actually the ones on the Summit agenda, regarding enlargement issues. He mentioned the dispute between Greece and Macedonia, which in spite of all the negotiations, could not be solved.
Cioroianu stated that, from Romania’s perspective, we hope for both parties – the Hellenic and the Macedonian one – to use the remainaing time to overcome the impasse.
When asked about what could affect the proper course of the Summit, Adrian Cioroianu replied: "What I fear most are things we haven’t even considered now".
He added that even in Romania “suprise elements” can occur, in spite of the big number of institutions involved in the Summit organization. The Minister mentioned as potential obstacle, "a Summit organization shadowed by the natural, normal displeased reactions of the Bucharest citizens". In this context, he saluted Premier’s Tăriceanu gesture, who applogized in advance on Wednesday for the discomfort to be caused during the Summit.
