Cioroianu: ben Laden’s threats are not likely to jepardize the Summit’s organization
The Minister of Foreign Affiars, Adrian Cioroianu, declared on Thursday that Osama ben Laden’s threats are not likely to jepardize the organization of the NATO Summit, or its political agenda.
"Regarding Osama ben Laden’s threats, they are not likely to jepardize the organization of the NATO Summit from Bucharest, neither its topics nor the political agenda of the event", siad Cioroianu.
When asked about Romania’s position concerning sending additional troops to Afghanistan, in a context in which several allied states raised the issue, the Minister of Foreign Affairs refused to comment till an official request on the matter would arrise.
Nevertheless, he added that regarding Afghanistan, the issue is quite different from the one in Iraque. He commented that in Afghanistan we are mainly speaking of "the reconstruction and re-creation of a state".
The al-Qaida leader, Osama ben Laden, threatened the European Unionh on Wednesday for publishing caricatures of the Mahomed prophet. In an audio message published on the Internet in a moment that coincides with the birthday of the Islam founder, ben Laden stated that the drawings, considered offensive for Muslims, are part of a “new crusade", in which Pope Benedict the XVI-lea was also involved.
CIA is convinced that the voice in the audio message cast on Wednesday belongs to the al-Qaida leader, Osama ben Laden, stated an American intelligence official on Thursday, quoted by Reuters.
The cited official described the content of the mesage as "part of the on-going propaganda campaign", as well as an "outdated propaganda". He also stated that he can’t say when the message was recorded.
